Kraken Summer Cocktail
When my extended family gets together, we are always looking for tasty cocktails that everyone can agree taste awesome. We often have daiquiris, cider, or numerous bottles of wine. I have a cabinet full of really interesting liquors; I’d like to use them. Summer is the perfect time for mixed drinks. The few extra hours of daylight make people live in the moment and enjoy themselves! Hot days make everyone want a glass of something icy.
I am really picky about liquor that I drink unmixed. Kraken is one of the few liquors that I enjoy mixed or straight. It is a black rum that says it is inspired by the Caribbean. It feels perfect to compliment with lime and ice for a drink you can sip in the sun.
There is a magic number of adults that make blended drinks worth the trouble. If you make yourself a whole pitcher, the second and third glass never end up tasting the same. If you have to do several pitchers, you cannot serve everyone at once, and some peoples’ drinks are dying on the counter while you’re making more. In my house, that number is about 4-6 drinking adults. I serve these drinks in my wine glasses. They look classy.
We have several bottles of soda stream concentrate around the house as well. This recipe tastes pretty good if you pour a cap-full of soda concentrate into the blender. The recipe tastes good without it; If you have no other use for the cola, you can just add some simple syrup instead.Instructions:
- Fill your blender to the 5 cup mark with ice.
- Add ½ of a container of frozen limeade.
- Pour Kraken into blender. For best results, pour another shot directly into your mouth. 😉
- Add cola concentrate
- Blend well. My Ninja is just an on/off, but some blenders have settings specifically for ice. When there are no more chunks of ice, pour into cups and serve. For a fresh twist, you can serve with lime wedge.
